Steps of Peace and Stories of Palestine

The event begins with the energetic dance of the dabka, a traditional Palestinian folk dance that opens the evening with its rhythm and movement, inviting visitors to stop and listen. This is followed by a short presentation of the Peacewalk march, which for the fifth year in a row brings together people of different countries, languages and religions on a common path towards Jerusalem. This year, the Slovenian branch of the march set off from Ljubljana towards Trieste, Rijeka, Sarajevo and further towards the Middle East – coming to Postojna in the middle of this route.

The central part of the event is dedicated to conversation and speech. Two walkers read a dialogue inspired by the public appearances of Israeli peace activist Maoz Inon and Palestinian peace activist Aziz Abu Sarah – two men who, despite personal loss and pain, chose the path of reconciliation and dignity. This is followed by a moderated conversation with the creators of the Palestinian Caravan on the theme "Culture as a Living Form of Resistance, Remembrance and Connection", where we will talk about how food, music, dance and stories keep the memory of the community alive, even when people are separated from their homes.

The evening concludes with a recitation of Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish's poem Think of Others, which quietly but firmly reminds us of those who do not have a home, water, food or freedom – and a repetition of the dabka dance, which invites visitors to join in movement and socializing.

Throughout the event, handmade products by Palestinian women (traditional tatreez embroidery, accessories and gifts) and Palestinian cuisine will also be on display and for sale.
